Choosing the right shed size is one of the most important decisions you will make before ordering. Too small and you run out of space within a year. Too big and it overwhelms your yard. Use this guide to find the perfect fit.

Pro Tip: Whatever size you think you need, go one size up. Storage needs always grow over time. The price difference between sizes is often smaller than buyers expect.

Note on floor kits: Floor kits are not available for 10x20, 12x20 and 12x24 sizes due to weight restrictions. For these sizes a concrete slab or gravel pad foundation is recommended. See our FAQ for more on foundation options.

How to Measure Your Available Space

Before ordering, confirm the area where you plan to put your shed. Here is what to account for:

Measure the exact length and width of your available space. Do not estimate -- write the numbers down.
Subtract 2 to 4 feet from each side for assembly clearance and ongoing access.
Check for overhead obstructions -- trees, power lines and overhanging roofs can limit shed height.
Check your setback requirements -- most municipalities require sheds to be at least 5 to 10 feet from property lines.
Make sure the delivery truck can reach the installation site. Measure any gates or narrow passages. Most shed panels are 8 feet wide.

Quick clearance reference: Your available space minus 4 feet on length and width gives you the maximum shed size that will fit comfortably. A 16 x 20 foot space comfortably fits a 12 x 16 foot shed.
